                  The Apostleship of the Sea: New Venture
                                Launched In Goa

PANAJI, GOA, MAR. 25, 2008 (CBCI News):

On March 1st. 2008, the Archbishop Patriarch of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao, blessed and dedicated a new facility for Seafarers in Alto Porvorim, in the compound of the Redemptorist Fathers.

This facility will start operations on April 1, 2008.The Indian unit of the Apostleship of the Sea, (AOS) one of the networking groups of CBCI Labour Commission, is going to open Next Voyage fitness & Stella Maris Counseling Services” .

The Apostleship of the Sea (AOS); & in Latin, Apostolatus Maris (AM ) is the international network of the Catholic church Associations of seafaring and land-based (fishing communities) seems it as a actualization of Pope Benedict XVI’s Angelus Message, on World Maritime Day , 28th Sept 2006.In which he declared ” …I thank the Lord for the work of the Apostleship of the Sea, which for many years has offered human and spiritual support to those who live this difficult and challenging way of life . I welcome particularly the recent initiatives taken by the international Maritime organization to contribute to the fight against poverty and hunger. May our Lady, Star of the sea, look down in love upon seafarers and their families and upon all those who care for their human and spiritual needs”

NEXT VOYAGE Fitness is mainly meant for sailors who may be resting at home before their next voyage. While they are at home resting, they need to be fit always. A fit ship requires fit sailors! The fitness Center will be managed & run by fitness experts. Entry will be on a subscription basis – one month, three, six and twelve.

Stella Maris Counseling Services are only for seafarers and their families. These are to be organized from various points in Goa from various parishes and institutions. The Family Service Center and the Laity Center of the Archdiocese are considered to be an ongoing hub where people may come and seek such interventions in their lives.
