Christmas celebrations in St. Dominic’s Ashram

 

The first step towards the Christmas celebrations was the talk given by fr. Noel Molloy OP. he shared his thoughts based on Romans 12/ 12,”Rejoice in hope…”. The measure that we fulfill this hope will be according to the measure with which we thirst. The active waiting of advent does bring some changes in our lives though it may be in a small way.

Carol singing from house to house:

Youth of the parish with the guidance of fr. George Raj and Brothers in charge organized the house to house carol singing in the different areas of the parish from 16th to 23rd.

Participating in Carol singing competitions:

The students participated in the carols competition organized by St. Charles Seminary.

Poster competition:

Thomistic Academy organized a poster competition on 15th December on the topic to choose between life and death. The posters were displayed for the public.

Street play:

students went around different outskirts of the city on 19th and 20th, sharing the message of Jesus’ gospel. The programme included a number of carols, skits based on the life of Jesus.

Crib

Crib was prepared by the brothers on the theme ‘Jesus has brought down all the dividing walls that we are able to live in peace if we are to walk with him’. Large crowd of different faiths visited the crib and the brothers explained to them the importance of Jesus in their personal and social lives.

Christmas tree for the community.

The whole community came together for the Christmas tree on 23rd evening. They sang and prayed together and exchanged their gifts to their Christmas friends.

The Christmas vigil service

The service began with the solemn singing of the office of the readings which was also joined by the parish crowd. It was followed by the carols. The Mass was presided by Fr. George Raj. In his sermon he said that Jesus is ever present with us in all our human situations whether they may be happy or full of sorrow. He will be with us till the end of time.
